Last updated: 15 March 2025

These Terms and Conditions ("Terms") govern your use of the Terne Lab website located at ternelab.cyou and the engagement of our interior design services. By accessing our website or entering into a service agreement with us, you agree to these Terms.

Please read them carefully. If you do not agree, please refrain from using our website or engaging our services.

1. About Terne Lab

Terne Lab is an interior design studio based at 29 Jalan Duta Kiara, Mont Kiara, 50480 Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. We provide spatial consultation, full design, and project coordination services for residential, commercial, and hospitality clients.

2. Use of Our Website

You may use this website for lawful purposes only. You agree not to:

  • Transmit unsolicited communications, spam, or harmful code
  • Attempt to access areas of the website not intended for public access
  • Copy, reproduce, or redistribute our website content without written permission
  • Misrepresent your identity or affiliation when contacting us

We reserve the right to restrict or terminate access to our website at our discretion and without notice.

3. Our Services

Terne Lab offers three principal services:

  • Growth Consultation (MYR 440): An initial in-person assessment with written notes and a material reference collection. Delivered within one week of the session.
  • Full Design Cultivation (MYR 3,100): A complete design process including spatial layouts, material selection, furniture coordination, lighting design, 3D visualisations, and a living design document. Includes two feedback rounds. Timeline of 5–9 weeks.
  • Project Tending & Completion (MYR 1,600): Renovation-phase oversight including material sourcing, contractor coordination, site monitoring, and a final styling session. Typical duration of 8–14 weeks.

Service fees stated above are our standard rates and are subject to confirmation in a written proposal or engagement letter. Final fees for any project are as agreed in writing between Terne Lab and the client.

4. Engagement & Payment

Agreement

All client engagements begin with a written proposal or letter of engagement signed by both parties. Work does not commence until this agreement is in place and a deposit has been received.

Payment Schedule

Payment terms are set out in each client agreement. Standard terms involve a deposit at the commencement of work, with stage payments as agreed. All fees are quoted in Malaysian Ringgit (MYR) and are inclusive of SST where applicable.

Late Payment

Where payment is not received by the agreed date, we reserve the right to pause work on the project until the outstanding balance is settled. We will communicate with you before doing so.

5. Scope of Services & Changes

The scope of work for each project is defined in the written engagement agreement. Any changes to scope — including additions, removals, or revisions beyond the agreed feedback rounds — will be discussed and documented in a written variation before additional work proceeds. Additional fees may apply.

6. Client Responsibilities

To enable us to deliver our services effectively, clients agree to:

  • Provide accurate information about the property, project requirements, and existing conditions
  • Grant access to the property for site visits as needed
  • Review and respond to design proposals within agreed timeframes
  • Make payments on schedule as set out in the engagement agreement
  • Notify us promptly of any changes in circumstances that may affect the project

7. Intellectual Property

All design documents, drawings, visualisations, and written materials produced by Terne Lab remain our intellectual property until full payment has been received. Upon receipt of final payment, the client is granted a licence to use the design materials for the specific project described in the engagement agreement. This licence does not transfer copyright ownership.

All website content, including text, imagery, and design elements on ternelab.cyou, is owned by or licensed to Terne Lab and may not be reproduced without our written consent.

8. Limitation of Liability

Terne Lab's liability in connection with any project is limited to the fees paid by the client for the relevant service. We are not liable for:

  • Delays or defects caused by third-party contractors or suppliers
  • Changes in the cost of materials, labour, or construction after design documents are issued
  • Consequential or indirect losses arising from decisions made based on our advice

Nothing in these Terms limits our liability for fraud, personal injury caused by our negligence, or any other liability that cannot be excluded by law.

9. Termination

Either party may terminate a project engagement with written notice. Upon termination:

  • Fees for work completed up to the termination date are due and payable
  • Design documents remain the property of Terne Lab until all outstanding fees are settled
  • Where a client cancels after work has commenced, a reasonable cancellation fee may apply as set out in the engagement agreement

10. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of Malaysia. Any disputes arising from these Terms or from client engagements shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Malaysia.

11. Privacy

We handle personal information in accordance with our Privacy Policy, which forms part of these Terms.

12. Changes to These Terms

We may revise these Terms from time to time. The date shown at the top of this page reflects the most recent update. Continued use of our website or services after a revision constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
